Oh, I know what you mean about "FREE" being poor info, I've come across it too many times lately and I begin to learn about getting better at marketing. In some cases as I move to launch my book I had similar thoughts and these three suggestions started me out right.

LOL...yea, I totally just went into the store and started looking around for something. I can look at just about anything and come up with a grabber idea...it's a gift. LOL I knew the blow up woman doll was good but the challenge was getting it there. The box was just icing on the cake I think. Only problem was that Bill cut her with the box opener when he opened the box, so if you try it put some extra cardboard at the top....lol.

Another tip is don't put anything glittery in as a grabber either. I did these sparkly bells at Christmas time and all the movement during mailing just made for a glittery mess when the receiver opened it. You live and learn.

Thanks for the comments.

That's an awesome story! Did you just put yourself in the way of inspiration by going to the store, or how DID you come up with that crazy idea?

I'm really impressed, or flabbergasted.

Well done!

Hey Barry,

Since I've been reading so much into copywriting lately I noticed how your post is broken up into neat little sub heads. Each sub head almost being a headline of it's own.

    Nice!

Aw shucks...thanks. I love the creative lumpy mail stuff, could do it all day. It was frightening and fun all at the same time. It's just all about getting their attention...and I can definitely do that. (aka. I'm sort of crazy anyways)...lol

Darlene - you're brilliant! I spoke with Barry earlier today who'd mentioned your tactic to get noticed by Bill. I'm very glad I came here to get the full scoop. I have no idea what the other applicants may've sent him but from seeing what you did - you had them ALL beat hand's down! Great job...
